Five Wind Power Advantages – Why the Wind Can Power the Future

More and more people are beginning to learn about the advantages of wind power over conventional fossil fuel power.

Alternative sources of energy, such as solar power, hydroelectric power, and wind power have always existed.

It’s only recently that interest in them has increased… no doubt spurred by the perennial fossil fuel crisis, as well as the continuing technological and engineering improvements in these fields.

Here are just five advantages of using wind power…

  1. Once the wind turbine has been built and installed, it requires no additional fuel. Wind is free and virtually unlimited, making it a much more sustainable energy source than fossil fuel. With modern advances in technology, the wind can be captured more and more efficiently, greatly increasing the cost-effectiveness ratio.

  2. Wind power is pollution-free. Again, once the wind turbines have been produced and set in place, the power that the wind produces does not result in any greenhouse gases or pollutants. Wind power is a very clean source of energy.
  3. The physical footprint for a wind turbine is small. The towers on which the wind turbines are put are fairly tall because the rotors need to be at the right height to catch the wind properly. However, each turbine actually takes up only a small area of land. This means that many wind turbines can be positioned in a given area of land, and also that the land below a turbine can still be put to use. This is one of the wind power advantages that make it useful for agricultural use, since the land below can still be planted with crops or used for pasture.
  4. Wind turbines are self-contained, needing nothing more than the wind to operate. They can be used to provide power to remote places. Solar and wind power are being harnessed right now in many different locations on the globe that are not reached by the power grid.
  5. Finally, wind power is scalable. With many different sizes of wind turbines available, the installation process can be tailor-made to the circumstances at hand. Whether to power only a few gadgets, an entire household, or even a neighborhood, the choice of size and number of wind turbines is entirely up to the user.

Just these five advantages illustrate that wind power is a flexible, clean, and attractive energy source.
